The Leixlip Lights Committee was formed in September 1999. Their aim was to purchase and erect Christmas lights for the Main Street of Leixlip. The festive decorations would also include an outdoor crib and Christmas tree.
The Committee negotiated a contract with Rossa Lights's Cavan. This contract was for a three year period and involved Rossa Lights putting up, taking down, storing and maintaining the lights for that period. The total cost of for this was approx. €40,000. After this time the Committee would take ownership of the lights.
Funding for the Lights was raised through sponsorship donations and collections from local business and the community.
The Lights Committee include Bernard Caldwell Cllr, Breda Cody, Stephen Gartland, Raymond Noonan, Eamonn Farrell, Catherine Farrell, Victoria Kelly, Gary Norris, Brian McAuley, Michael Coleman and Brendan Kinnane.
